about us
Swami Dayananda Saraswati Educational Society is an NGO located in Manjakkudi, a small village on the banks of the river Cauveri in Tamil Nadu. The main occupation of the villagers is farming / agriculture, largely rice cultivators or workers, most of them living below the poverty line.
Swami Dayananda Saraswati Educational Society recognizes the important role education can play in the eradication of poverty . We believe in providing the right kind of education. We interpret this in a very wide sense - education would mean not just learning to pass a grade but also learning to live a fulfilling life, while meaningfully contributing to society around us. We achieve this by empowering youth with skills and knowledge that can help them enter the labour market. Through its orientation towards the world of work and emphasis on acquiring skills, it plays an essential role in promoting self reliance, contributes to reduction of poverty and ensures the social and economical inclusion of marginalized communities.
Apart from a good academic performance, these children empowered with a deep sense of social commitment , have been acting as instruments for transforming the lives of the people in Manjakkudi and the surrounding villages. These children help to organize free Eye camps in collaboration with the well known Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai. Treatment camps for villagers addicted to alcohol are conducted by the TTK Hospital, Chennai
